What is Burning Lion?

„Zum brennenden Löwen“ (Burning Lion) is an event happening in the beautiful countryside
of saxony.

The event is non-profit and celebrates life in accordance with the 10+2 Burning Man principles. It is not a festival. It is an event, a community and a global cultural movement. You will not be a guest, but a co-creating participant, because we need YOU. You are invited to collaborate, be inclusive, creative, connective, and to Leave No Trace. Get involved in all the adventures that will make the event happen in all it´s beauty.
The more you do, the more you get back. When you join others in play and in work, you are part of the burn. Your contribution is more valuable than you realize. Our system is based on volunteering work. We need to work hand in hand. Our shift system helps us to create a space everyone will be able to enjoy.

Where does Burning Lion take place?

This year’s Lion will take place in Kooperative Schloß Gersdorf, Striegistal, Germany

Is Burning Lion the same as Burning Man?

No, this burn is smaller, shorter, and doesn’t take place in a desert. However, it reflects the 10 principles Burning Man is built upon – please go and read them if you’re not familiar with the concept already.

What is included in the ticket price?

We want to try out a bit of a different method than usual, where you are given a choice: You decide what’s important to you!
There are certain costs that we see as necessary and essential to make the event happen. Then there are additional, OPTIONAL costs for add-ons that would be great to have, but we want the community to decide which of those things we want and how much money to invest.

So the base ticket price to cover our costs would be 50€ (aka low income).
This will cover the location, logistics and transport, basic kitchen, toilets, a small effigy, medics and basic welfare, small Soundsystem and wristbands.

Additionally you will have the option to pay a higher ticket price for whatever add-on you wish to have. The choices are:

  • Art and dreams
  • Effigy
  • Extra amazing Greeter station
  • Extra amazing food
  • Extra amazing Soundsystem
  • Light installations
  • Sauna
  • Super duper welfare care space
  • Bar
  • S+ Space

How can I transfer my ticket to someone else?

If you like to pass your ticket to someone else, please send an email from the same account as you entered while buying the ticket to tickets@burninglion. Please make sure the email header says „Ticket Transfer“ and it contains your name, your ticket number and the name, email and address of the person who will recieve the ticket.  We will adjust everything and send confirmations to both, you and the new ticket holder.

How is accommodation handled?

You are in charge of your own sleeping situation. Bring your own tent 🙂

Will this be the best burn of the year?

The ticket price does not cover things like atmosphere and great people. With participation being key, every person is expected to somehow contribute to the event, be it by offering a workshop, distributing smiles and hugs, or making sure to leave no trash behind. (Sitting around and expecting people to take care of you is not the spirit of Burning Lion. This is a burn!)

Can I make art?

Yes, this is the place to show off your special crafting skills!
Let us know about your project in the mastersheet under „Arts and dreams“. Need a directed ticket? Contact us under artists@burninglion.org

Can you pay for my art? Are there art grants?

You can apply in the master planning sheet in the slide named „Dream Application“.

How can I contribute/volunteer?

You will be asked how you want to contribute to Burning Lion when purchasing your ticket. We are looking for volunteers who want to take on decoration, arts, build&strike, kitchen and much more.

Can I bring my kids/ pets?

Kids are welcome and do not need a ticket, but they need to be signed up. Their parent or guardian is responsible for them and their safety 100% of the time. The event is not suited for animals, but you can bring your favorite spirit animal onesie or costume!
